Thankful

10 Things At The Core Is Thankful For (Both Silly and Serious)

You can probably already tell this won’t be one of our typical high school, college, and career planning blog articles. As most of us do at this time of year, we wanted to take a moment to share those things for which we are thankful. Some are silly. Most are heartfelt. Enjoy!

1) Serving our followers for ten years

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 65.5% of small businesses will fail during their first 10 years of business. We are honored and thankful for the past 10 years. Honestly, still blows our minds that ten years have passed!

2) Our team

At The Core’s team is the foundation of our success. We are thankful for the professionals who make each day a pleasure: Alex, Allison, Anne, Beth, Carla, Hillary, Kirsten, Kristi, Molly, Nancy, Richard, Stephanie, Taylor, and Vanessa. Each brings a wide variety of experiences and talents to the support they provide, and because of their giant willingness to share, we have stretched and grown in new ways to help families!

3) Squirrels

This silly one is for Beth. If you know her, you know she loves these little furry guys. How can you not be thankful for these chunky cuties this time of year?! #SquirrelLove?

4) The communities we serve

We have had the honor to connect and serve many different communities in our ten years. Too many to mention here, but they include all the different school districts, career tech schools, education providers, parent groups, and professional organizations we have partnered with. All of these communities share one thing: their passion for their students. We are honored and thankful to be a part of their mission in some small way.

5) Our professional friends

At The Core focuses our expertise on very specific areas to help families on this journey to college and career. Early on in our ten years, we recognized others out there serving students and families in different ways that we did but with the same level of effort and support.

Over the years, we have been able to partner with and support others who are experts in areas like financial planning, tutoring and test prep, mental health support, essay writing, and much more. Their expertise has been critical to many of our followers! We are thankful for these experts, and our friends page is always available for you to find that professional who can help you with the challenge you are facing.

6) Thanksgiving!

We love everything about this day – the food, the family, the friends, the football, and the nap afterwards. It is just a great time of year, and we’ll raise a glass to you, our followers, as we celebrate this year.

7) The options available to our kids

Don’t you just love all the options available to our kids today? Whether it is the wide variety of classes they can take in high school, the experiences they can have outside of school, or the options open to them after high school, we are thankful that today’s students have more choices than we did growing up. Much of our educational programming is devoted to educating families about the paths available. Today, each student can craft a curriculum and future that suits their strengths, interests, and joys. We are thankful for the potential built into the options and that they get to make those choices!

8) Silly Thanksgiving jokes

What do we mean?

Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Tank.
Tank who?
You’re welcome.

Not impressed? Ok. How about this one?

What do you call a turkey the day after Thanksgiving? Lucky!

Can you handle one more?

Why did the cranberries turn red? Because they saw the turkey dressing.

We’ll stop now. You’re probably thankful we did. 😉

9) Change

Change is hard. We all lived a crash course in change throughout COVID where everything was thrown upside down. But change is not confined to the pandemic, and in the world of high school and college planning, knowing that things will change is the only certainty. We are thankful for change because it keeps us on our toes, makes things interesting, and challenges us to continue to learn and grow so we can share that knowledge with you. We welcome change and are ready to help you through it.

10) All of YOU!

We saved the best for last of course. We are grateful for the trust and confidence you put in us. We are inspired every day by all of you – our students and parents. We don’t take your trust for granted. Thank you and best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, and please know we are ALWAYS here for you.
